"The fall of the Western Roman Empire happened in 476 A.D., and ‘cáocuǐ’ (漕漼) refers to the sound made when crossing water..."
Rote memorization like this has taken up a significant portion of Taiwan’s education system. However, this method of learning is not effective in preparing students for the fast-changing society of the future.
According to the OECD’s “Future of Education and Skills 2030” report, the three essential competencies are cognitive skills (critical thinking), practical learning abilities, and social-emotional skills. Similarly, McKinsey & Company identified the three key and commonly lacking soft skills for future talent as: problem-solving and critical thinking, the ability to deal with complexity and ambiguity, and communication skills.
All of these reports highlight a common message: passive, memorization-based education models can no longer meet the needs of a rapidly evolving society. Instead, critical thinking is the foundation for navigating complexity in the future. Whether a nation’s people possess such skills directly affects civic literacy, workforce development, and sustainable societal progress.
Our Story & Values
We envision a world where critical thinking is part of everyone’s everyday life.
Our mission is to build a critical thinking education system for Taiwan and create a society that thinks and engages in meaningful dialogue.
Lead For Taiwan was founded in 2018 and officially registered as a non-profit organization in 2021.
We collaborate with both local and international teams—including researchers from the University of Cambridge, as well as professors from National Chengchi University and National Taiwan Normal University—to develop and refine a comprehensive training system. This includes trainer preparation, critical thinking workshops, and future issue exploration programs.
Using a train-the-trainer model, we partner with high schools and vocational schools across Taiwan to embed critical thinking and problem-solving into the formal education system. Through this approach, students learn to think independently and tackle real-world issues, especially those related to sustainable development, social responsibility, and environmental protection. By exploring these topics through the lens of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), we aim to inspire students to engage in community service and advocacy, creating a positive cycle of thoughtful action.
In a world that is increasingly complex and uncertain, our goal is to equip Taiwanese students with strong critical thinking skills and a sharp sense of problem-solving. Through programs like Future Issue Inquiry and Logical Communication Training, we nurture a mindset that cares deeply about societal progress—preparing students to become future leaders and the change they wish to see in the world.
