In this interview, I had the chance to hear Bo-Sung share his experience participating in Lead For Taiwan’s (LFT) four-day, three-night camp. For him, this event was not just a brief summer experience but an important milestone for broadening his horizons and personal growth.

From Anxiety to Joy: Beginning to Break Free from the Comfort Zone

Bo-Sung honestly admitted that he didn’t have high expectations when signing up for the camp. “Actually, it was because a classmate invited me, so I registered mainly to gain experience and enrich my learning journey.” However, before the event started, the classmates who were supposed to attend with him canceled at the last minute, making Bo-Sung consider giving up. “At first, I was really nervous, especially since it was my first time attending an event alone in another county.” Nevertheless, his anxiety was eventually replaced by a strong desire to challenge himself. He chose to check in early, and interacting with his roommates helped him gradually ease his worries and even start looking forward to the learning journey ahead.

Learning Through Diverse Issues: A Chance to Explore Broadly

During the camp, Bo-Sung chose aging society as his main course topic. He explained that this is an issue often mentioned in class, and he believes it has a profound impact on future generations.

“We discussed problems like labor shortages and shared our perspectives from different angles,” he said. This kind of discussion felt very different from his regular school classes and sparked a new passion for learning.

In addition to aging society, the camp also covered a wide range of topics including AI, circular economy, and the stigma around mental illness.

“These sessions were really engaging,” he shared, “because unlike typical programs that stick to just one topic, this camp gave us a chance to explore knowledge from various fields.” He felt that the diversity of topics allowed each participant to find an area they were truly interested in and gain more from the discussions.

Team Collaboration: A Deep, Revolutionary Bond

What left the deepest impression on Bo-Sung during the camp was the final day’s group presentation. “Because the preparation time was so tight, we spent almost the entire night discussing and rehearsing,” he recalled. He described the experience as a kind of “revolutionary” team collaboration — one that created rare and meaningful bonds with others.

“This was completely different from the group work I usually experience at school. Here, everyone gave it their all, and I could truly feel a sense of shared purpose and teamwork.” He deeply valued this experience and said the journey taught him how to work with others toward a common goal.

How the Camp Shaped Me: Confidence and Broader Horizons

When asked about his biggest takeaway from the camp, Bo-Sung answered without hesitation, “This experience gave me more confidence to discuss social issues with others and really broadened my perspective.” He shared that what he learned from the camp isn’t just useful now — it will also serve as valuable nourishment for future challenges.

“I hope more people can have the chance to join activities like this, step out of their comfort zones, explore a wider world, and work toward a better future for themselves and for society.” Bo-Sung’s words were filled with gratitude and passion — and this camp has undoubtedly become a key turning point in his life.
